Fresh Look at Targets

No point setting impossible targets

when you know that they aren't achievable

instead spend time, engage with people

let them understand the nuts and bolts

for achieving realistic targets!

Realistic targets take away need to

window dress, hide real facts

learn to acknowledge failures

not only to celebrate success!

How transparent are you about failures?

have once a week reruns, ruminating on

what worked, what did not

zeroing in on reasons of failure

and deciding on what support to be extended

for converting failure to success!

Stop taking failures personally

view it as organizational deficiency

People with different abilities required

at different life cycle of organization

raring to go mindset at "Start up time" changes to more

of process orientation, with organizational maturity

Clarity is the key-  Ask, why did I set these targets ?

now analyze, why couldn't I achieve it?

failure isn't failure really

it's information for the way forward!

As tactical retreats are done by armies

you strategize, when goals missed in business

not by setting unrealistic targets

but by realigning for the way forward!

  1. Rajeevji, using poetry as a Management tool to introspect on the failures as a step to move forward is done excellently well

  4. 🍓🍒🍊🍎🍉 Must appreciate the nuances of corporate governance and performance with which many people spent major part of life. Ultimately discipline is the bridge between goals and achievements. Happy that many people had lived the corporate life king size in own stride. Worthy reading 🍓🍒🍉🍎🍇

  5. Target has stuck with life looks like permanently be it personal life or corporate. For kids target given by parents to be first or atleast within first 5 in class, getting admission in some preferred school or college. Becoming some dream professional, getting some dream job. Then once in corporate life, apart from financial targets of the company, there are personal financial targets, getting own house,a certain bank balance in a certain time, getting married to and by....so on and so forth. Targets are never ending in once life.
In planning for retirement and after retirement too there are targets regarding maintaining uninterrupted and sufficient cash flows and maintaining targeted weight, blood pressure and sugar levels.
The important point is how to enjoy life and be happy while achieving or some time even missing the targets. Targets should not be the dead end. As you very well said tactical retreats are done by the armies in some battles as a part of strategy to win the overall war.
Nice and unique poetic way of Rajeev to handle an otherwise dry and often dreaded word like Target.

  7. Nice read Rajeev
Realistic targets, transperancy, not getting personalised, reflecting on what worked and what did not - all. Good take aways.
